HOW DO I WORK?

The editing process is a close collaboration between author and editor. I have a different relationship with each writer, shaped by our personalities as well as the needs of the manuscript we are working on. My goal is to bring out the best in your writing. I will provide detailed feedback and suggestions to help you create a strong and appealing book.

Authors and agents generally contact me with brief descriptions of projects that need a skilled editor. My publishing experience and appreciation for good storytelling is wide-ranging, but some projects do lie outside of my interests or expertise. If that’s the case, I’ll say so. You deserve a fully engaged, enthusiastic editor to partner with.

If your project is a possible fit, I’ll ask for a short excerpt (perhaps the first 30 pages), along with a brief description of the whole book. Reading your sample material gives me an initial sense of the book and allows me to determine whether or not I’m the right editor/collaborator to help you produce an excellent finished product.

After I read your excerpt, we can set up a phone call to discuss my initial impressions, your goals for the project, and the range of literary services that might work for you.

RATES

$200/hour

Fees are determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on the scope and complexity of the material, and an estimate of how many hours the project will take to complete.
